Couture walls

In the spirit of looking for loveliness for your home, and to cheer us up in such gloomy weather, here are some of the most wonderful coverings for walls that you’ll ever come across…

Scale wallpaper from Catherine Hammerton

Textile designer Catherine Hammerton has made wallpaper look and feel like fabric. Tactile, pretty and like pieces of art for a wall…

Taking wallpapers on to another level is Claire Coles. Her couture embroidered wallpapers transform individual walls into works of art. Using fragments of hand-sourced vintage wallpapers which are layered, she then intricately embroiders them with silks and leather to create a range of patterns and scenes. Each is made bespoke to order. Definitely on my wish list!

One of my absolute favourites, though, are the gorgeous and innovative papers from Elli Popp. Designer Katja Behre has created collections of wallpapers which can be used by themselves or merged to create a combined pattern. To die for…

Rockett St George is one of my favourite online shops. It has really interesting, beautiful pieces for the home and lots to lust after. Its wallpaper selection is one of the best around.

I also love Erica Wakerly’s lovely metallic papers – ideal for a bold statement wall.

Perfect for a small room, like a downstairs cloakroom, is this Mini Moderns Sitting Comfortably wallpaper. This is actually a really innovative children’s wallpaper brand, but works equally well for adults, too.

Of course, Cole and Son do some of the loveliest papers to be had:

High on my wish list, though, is the Love Bird wallpaper by Tactile Wonderland:

Gorgeous... Love Birds

Am also considering a move away from the ‘feature’ wall to using a few wallpaper panels instead…

Or these gorgeous wall stickers from French company Harmonie Interieure

Or these velvet trees from Wall Sensation...
