There’s nothing like a bit of pampering to see you through these cold days we’re experiencing at the moment. Having stocked up at the recent CEW Product Testing event in February where I was privy to some of the latest beauty launches, I’ve devised a new beauty routine to see me through till summer…
Jump in the shower and slough off dead skin with Cottage Le Caramel Exfoliating Shower Gel. This cult budget French brand will soon be available in the UK and, unlike many other body scrubs, this is gentle with just a hint of exfoliator beads. It also smells dreamy, sweet yet subtle, a bit like catching a faint waft from a French patisserie. Just gorgeous and leaves skin feeling silky smooth.
I then rinse this off using a scented shower gel. My current absolute favourite – not least because of its dramatic, gothic-esque packaging – is Mor’s Italian Blood Orange Hand & Body Wash (morcosmetics.com). It feels really luxurious, although it is gentle enough for sensitive skins (it has no paragons or synthetics). Extracts of camomile and aloe, blood oranges and jasmine, rose and lilly of the valley leave you delicately fragranced.
Next, I turn my attention to my complexion. Melvita’s just launched Milky Cleansing Oil is from its Rose Nectar Skincare Collection (melvita.co.uk). It transforms from oil to a milky lotion on contact with water. It’s ultra comforting and uses a combination of rose hip oil and rose petals to remove dirt, debris and makeup whilst preventing skin dryness. I love the thought of rose petals on my skin and it’s a truly lovely find.
Around twice a week, I also exfoliate my face. Gazelli is one of my favourite brands (gazellicosmetics.com). Hailing from Azerbaijan, it has unique packaging (featuring ancient quotations) and fabulous innovative products in its range. The Triple Youth Illuminating Skin Polish uses micro-granule rice powder to clear pores and lift dull dead cells. The luxury Triple Youth products contain a unique blend of Gazelli’s regenerative White Oil with anti-oxidant rich Red Grape extract, the results are a bright and radiant complexion.
Out of the shower now and on with an all over body cream to lock in moisture. I tend to vary these according to mood, but at the moment I’m faithful to Sanctuary Spa’s 5 Day Moisture Creamy Body Oil (sanctuaryspa.com). This is a combination of a body cream and oil that completely hydrates dry limbs – it sinks in immediately and gives skin a nice dewy glow. Despite its claims that it will keep skin moisturised and supple for five days, even after taking a shower, the formula is surprisingly light. Apparently this is down to something called Gold of Pleasure of Oil – which sounds fabulously exotic, as well as mango seed and apricot oil.
To add a little colour to my sun-starved limbs, I’ve also started using Melvita’s new Prosun Gradual Self-tanning Moisturising Gel Cream, every other day (melvita.co.uk). It works great with the above Sanctuary product, as skin already has the benefits of the long-lasting moisture that the 5 Day formula gives. I love the texture of this as it goes on smooth and gives a gradual tan while adding moisturise. It features Erythrulose, a natural bronzing agent derived from sugar cane which results in a natural looking, even and streak-free safe tan. It is also free from DHA, which can lead to an orange-tinted shade, uneven coverage, unpleasant smell and a drying effect. Instead it contains Vanilla Flower and Sweet Orange water to give a delicious scent, while Safflower, Buriti and Coconut oils and beeswax provide the silky smooth texture.
Next, I moisturise hands separately with Australian Bodycare Tea Tree Oil Hand Cream (australian-bodycare.co.uk). I love this brand. It’s not glamorous or particularly ‘of the moment’ and its packaging is rather nondescript, but all their products work really well and smell fresh and clean. This is an intensive cream for hands and contains 1% Tea Tree Oil, shea butter, argan oil to nourish and leave hands really soft and supple.
Finally, I smooth on a facial moisturiser and my most recent find is the Brightening Cream, from organic brand Melvita (again!) (melvita.co.uk). It’s taken from another new collection from the brand for this year, the organic Brightening Range which uses five white flowers across a range of products to give an even-toned luminous complexion. These flowers – Wintergreen, Narcissus, Bellis, White Lupin and White Sea Lily – are regarded as ‘intelligent flowers’ that protect themselves against the sun’s UV rays – respond to the cycles of day and night and hide themselves from the sun. The Brightening Cream corrects an uneven complexion, protects skin’s luminosity and intensively moisturises with a touch of hyaluronic acid to leave skin radiant and glowing.
Now to start the day!
