Here’s a little selection of the best beauty products inspired by their spa background…
Bliss Spas started in New York and are now found all over the world. They are renowned for their savvy approach to beauty with genius treatments, such as the triple oxygen facial and innovative products to match. Bestsellers include the Lemon and Sage Body Scrub (£28.60), which leaves skin velvety smooth and the Vanilla and Bergamot Body Butter (£20.50). This deeply moisturising butter contains Vitamin E and coconut oil to smooth lumps and bumps and a deliciously sweet scent (blissworld.co.uk).
Aromatherapy Associates is one of the most popular spa brands around. Look out for its recent collaboration with fashion designer Roland Mouret. The limited edition product line includes the Final Finish Body Serum (£47). This serum for the body not only feels totally luxurious but is also packed with natural ingredients, such as evening primrose, rose and vanilla. It is intended to be smoothed over the arms, legs and décolletage after dressing for a glowing finish (aromatherapyassociates.com).
Champneys Spas may be one of the UK’s success stories but its products call on exotic climes for inspiration. The signature Distant Shores Body Scrub (£10, boots.com) is well worth snapping up when you see it. Grapefruit, lemon and orange peel oils, mango and passion fruit extracts will transport you to a heady, tropical world.
Talking of which, Caribbean Essentials is a luxury, global spa brand inspired by the energy of the Caribbean. Just the thing to cool down on balmy summer days is its Refreshing Aloe and Citrus Cleansing Wash (£18, caribbeanessentials.com). It leaves skin feeling zingy and clean with its cocktail of exotic ingredients. Smells divine, too!
For something a little different, seek out La Sultane de Saba Black Soap (£25, burntlily.com). You would ordinarily find this in a traditional Middle Eastern hammam (although it is now available online). The traditional soap has a gel-like texture and is made with organic Moroccan black and green olives and eucalyptus, and rids the skin of impurities and dead skin cells. It is enriched with Argan oil, and so also moisturises the skin, leaving a healthy glow.
Finally, look out for Mandara Spa products on your travels. The line of bath and bodycare collections have been inspired by the natural ingredients used in the treatments in the Mandara Spas found throughout the world. Our favourite is the Island Paradise Moisturising Shower Gel (£6.50, timetospa.co.uk). It gently lathers to leave skin cleansed and you with a spring in your step, due to its grapefruit and lemon. While the Tropical Blooms Smoothing Shower Scrub (£6.50) is a great prep product pre-tanning and is gentle, not harsh on the skin. Use once or twice a week to keep limps smooth and free from bumps. Scented with jasmine and ylang ylang, it will transport you somewhere hot and exotic, even if the nearest you’ll be going to the sun is Sunningdale.
