Continuing my Christmas Countdown and today is Day 9 with featured goodies by heritage beauty brand Bronnley.
I love the vintage feel of this brand. In fact, its history reaches back to 1884, when James Bronnley started making soaps, having spent a year studying the art in Paris. Undoubtedly its heyday was in the 1930s when only a few big beauty companies were in existence. It was seen as glamourous and all of its products were sought after, even by the Royals themselves, going on to win its first Royal Warrant in the early 40s.
These days, the products have been revived and revamped, not to mention extended (theres a huge range available) for a 21st century beauty lover and are just as covetable. My suggestion is to wrap a few of the (very affordable) products together in some tissue paper and place in a little hamper or decorative box to make a bespoke and very special gift.
Stand-outs are the Rose Bath Relaxant, £10.25, part of the Royal Horticultural Society range of select products, whereby 5% of the profits go to the charity. The gorgeous rose illustration reminds me of a bygone time, while the deeply indulgent bath bubbles themselves vie with the best modern-day luxury offerings. Enriched with arnica and natural mineral salts, skin is left cleansed and soft. The fragrance of a rose bouquet combined with a hint of white musk, leaves skin delicately scented. Blooming gorgeous!
Keeping with the vintage theme, I’d probably add in the Pink Bouquet Fragranced Talc, £6.95. Just like my championing the return of scented soap (see blog on 25th November), talc is also on my ‘bring it back’ list. It’s another product that faces a sad demise. But look again, girls. Talc is not just for granny chic, there’s something indisputably feminine and beautifying about applying a thin layer of powder after your bath or shower. This floral version is fresh and is nourished with sweet almond oil – so works as a substitute to body cream – it leaves limbs silky, soft and perfumed.
Another favourite from the Bronnley stable is the Orchid Cleansing Body Wash, £9.95. I love a gorgeous shower gel – it’s one of life’s little luxuries that used in your morning shower can set the tone for the day ahead! It’s also the sort of thing that you probably miss out on buying for yourself, so makes a perfect gift. This is a joy to use and fills the air with its sweet notes of sweet almond and jasmine. It gives a rich lather so it feels extra special. And who wouldn’t love that?
