Flip and flop: Havaianas in Aman Sveti Stefan, Montenegro

I love discovering ‘under the radar’ destinations and Montenegro is my latest find. A tiny country on the Adriatic, it borders Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Albania. Blessed with a stunning landscape – think picturesque bays bordered by hills and mountains – its just a couple of hours from the UK, but remains largely undiscovered.

I was lucky enough to stay at the standout Aman Sveti Stefan, which is found on its own historic island linked to the mainland by a picturesque walkway. It recently opened a standout spa – which is uniquely ten minutes walk from the main hotel, along a horseshoe bay and is found set back from the stunning Queen’s Beach, surrounded by forest. The building has been designed to match the nearby Villa Milocer, the former summer residence of Queen Marija Karadjordjevic, and now also part of Aman’s set up, and is spectacularly fronted by a reflection pound and rolling lawns. Impossibly glam in a laid-back Adriatic kind of way, this was the perfect place to be rocking my new Havaianas while kicking back to wait for my host of treatments. The ‘Adriatic Rejuvenation’, featuring  exfoliation with mint-infused olive oil, wild honey and raw sugar, followed by an oat milk soak and a 60-minute aromatherapy-based massage using lavender and palmarosa, is the one to have.

Sand between my toes: the perfect place to showcase the new range of Havaianas

I’ll be posting more on my trip soon, but in the meantime – here are some of the tiny details that made the trip so memorable.

Each room has a different interior design but all have the signature Aman minimalism. My room had original exposed brick walls and simple, elegant statement lighting.

Little details, such as atmospheric road signs, fresh blooms, pretty ironmongery and secluded walkways, combine to give Aman Sveti Stefan an historic village-feel.

Giving nods to the island’s past, each night little gifts are left for guests, such as hand-made wax candles and lavender bath salts. Period lighting, chic candles in the rooms and rough-hewn ceramic pots housing the bathroom toiletries give an authentic feel and warm up Aman’s minimalist approach.

The beachside spa, meanwhile, with its design-led swimming pool, was the ultimate cocooning place to be (in an uber glam way). The ideal place for me to wear the latest Havaianas.  I think I’ve become an Aman Junkie.
