Keep your hair on… the latest for your locks

I’ve banished bad hair days with my latest beauty bounty. Perfect when travelling (which I do a lot) are these little gems from Maria Nila. Not only do the baby pink bottles (with Art Deco inspired graphics) look good, this Stockholm brand packs a punch when looking after your locks.

The 100ml bottles are ideal for a few days away and the Volume collection puts an end to flat, lifeless hair. I recently took these to New York and used the Shampoo and Conditioner (£4.99 each) every other day and my hair has never looked better (unusual when away from home). They work together to thicken fine hair and to add body. Vitamin B5 is the magic ingredient to restore vitality and the brand has what it calls a ‘Colour Guard Complex’ so hair stays shiny and bright. The shampoo deep cleans while the conditioner softens and moisturises without weighing hair down.

My favourite though is the mini Finishing Spray (£8.99). It’s perfect for carrying with you to pep up hair during your journey. It gives strong hold but is gentle on the hair and easily brushes out. It protects and, as well as using 100% vegan ingredients and being free from nasties, it lightly fragrances the hair with an uplifting scent. Products are available from www.sallyexpress.com in the UK.

Meanwhile, the new (gorgeous) hair wraps from Silke London are just the thing for keeping your hair ‘just-so’ after a long flight. The new innovative London brand is making a case for the return of the turban – this time around in 100% silk. The headpiece has been designed as an overnight carer for hair – cocoons locks while you sleep and especially good if you’ve just invested in a blow dry and want it to last a couple of days or more.

You may think you’d look like you’re channelling Elizabeth Taylor, but in fact they are uber flattering. As well as the jet-black model The Eva, shown here (£45), the wraps come in a variety of gorgeous, jewel colours, and a lush cream (so very 1930s).

Designed by Salma Kadir, who has worked for Marc by Marc Jacobs, the silk protector keeps hair cuticles flat, while the amino acids found in raw silk moisturise and care for hair. The slip-on, slip-off wrap puts an end to bed head – eliminating frizz and helping to prevent split ends and breakages. Diamonds not included. www.silkelondon.com

Meanwhile, back at home, I’ve been wowed by Paul Mitchell‘s latest offering. I love anything with a tropical vibe and this trio of Mirrorsmooth products features, as the starring ingredient, Awapuhi Ginger from Paul Mitchell’s very own Awaphui farm in Hawaii. The starry hairdresser established the solar-powerd farm 36 years ago, after discovering the benefits of the ingredient (it gives optimal moisture and keeps hair silky-smooth). The sleek packaging also nicely mirrors the reflective qualities that the trio of products give dull and lifeless hair.

The luxurious Mirrorsmooth Shampoo (£18.50) gives a rich foam, which I love, and restores hair so that it looks ultra shiny and bouncy (even when you don’t have time to condition). The range also uses Abyssinian oil to smooth the cuticle and reduce frizz.

For amazing shine, use the Mirrorsmooth Conditioner (£20.50). The rich, yet light-weight formula, hydrates, detangles and gives a reflective finish to hair. The new line of products, launching this month – May 2016, also uses the brand’s KeraReflect a fusion of ingredients, including keratin protein, to products and transform lacklustre hair.

Finish up on damp hair with the Mirrorsmooth High Gloss Primer (£7.95). It gives a polished look to unruly texture, seals in moisture and adds even more shine. It also has a humidity-resistant formula – so great for all weathers – giving a smooth finish come rain or shine. www.paul-mitchell.co.uk

Lastly, in my round-up of what’s new in hair-care, is Baylis & Harding‘s fabulous Great Hair duo, which uses the latest trend of coconut oil at its heart.

Renowned for its nourishing qualities, coconut oil also works to condition and hydrate hair. The super-sized duo of products (just £5.99) both contain keratin to strengthen, Pro-vitamin B5 to smooth and are paraben free. They feel luxurious to use (and smell a treat) and, have a modern copper-style design.Shake those tresses loose. Available exclusively at www.Lloydspharmacy.co.uk
