Christmas Countdown: Turn on your lights

Aren’t these pretty? Today’s chosen gem for Christmas are these little lantern lights, £14.99, from Argos‘ new home range, entitled The Collection. Ideal as a little gift for someone special or, indeed, now that December is here, as a festive addition to your own home.

Forget mainstream furniture, toys and gadgets – Argos has gone all design-focused with this new home range. Launched for the autumn-winter season, the store aims to bring forward-thinking, streamlined interiors to the high street, and it is full of some real gems. From sleek, Scandinavian-inspired chairs to shimmering copper accessories, The Collection by Argos combines good quality materials with contemporary designs but all at affordable prices.

My pick for Christmas are these modern, oriental-style lantern lights (in fact, I may actually leave mine up all year round, draped, as shown here, along my bookcase. They look so timeless). What is a modern, pared-back alternative to fairy lights, these string lanterns will also look atmospheric hung above a fireplace or would work well to add a little sparkle laced around a bed.

As well as some fabulous accessories, The Collection by Argos includes furniture, lighting, kitchenware and soft furnishings curated by the brand’s in-house design team. Look out for Scandi-style lounge chairs, timeless tones of copper, delicate embroidery and natural textured furniture that will add character and style to any room. Hero products from the 1,500-strong product range includes an anglepoise-style Twyford floor and table lamps (from £24.99) and a retro Tulwar chair in stylish grey (£229.99).

It’s the high street, but not as you know it. Keep it to yourselves, though, it’s set to be the interiors’ gurus’ best-kept secret.
