There’s something so covetable about this gorgeous, bright orange bottle from Venetian master perfumers Monotheme emblazoned with an illustration straight out of a picture book. Reminiscent of the statement scents our grandmothers would have had adorning their dressing tables – its appeal also lies in its modern sentiment with its opaque glass, clean lines and surprising notes within.
Italian for ‘grapefruit’, Pompelmo at first does what it says on ‘the tin’: spritz it on and you’ll immediately breathe in delicious, effervescent top notes of sparkling citrus. The perfect ‘morning’ scent – it uplifts and refreshes.
But just how sunshine flickers, darkens and comes bright again – the fragrance gradually deepens to a floral heart and onto musky base-notes to make for a complex, unique and overall elegant scent.
Created by master perfumier Lorenzo Vidal, for Monotheme, a classic Italian fragrance house, the scent has its roots in Venice. As the name suggests, Monotheme was created with the idea of offering ‘monothematic’ fragrances all based around one dominant note. Using classic perfumery traditions and formulas, each fragrance is characterized by a dominating raw material.
Pompelmo is one of the brand’s Il Libro Degli Agrumi series of scents, which are all inspired by the aromas of the citrus family, with nods to the Mediterranean way of life – think shimmering seas, plentiful orchards and long days in the sun. It’s the next best thing to a holiday in Italy.
