Welcome to lipstick with a difference. Not only are Axiology‘s products all-natural and vegan, but its ethos also incorporates an approach that is kind to the planet with a give-back philosophy.
There’s a huge spectrum of colours to choose from, but I love Fundamental, a russet-red which is perfect for Autumn. It’s been my-go to for the season – think: baby-soft jumper, skinny jeans, biker boots, a nude face and a pop of colour to give kissable lips.
The colour is bright and lasts for ages, with a soft malleable texture, so it glides on like a dream. I love the glamourous, almost Art Deco packaging: the lipstick comes in a chic, gold case with triangular motifs and design (and, incidentally, the box is made from recycled paper sourced from Bali).
“The paper used in our boxes is collected from all over the island of Bali,” says Ericka Rodriguez, the brand’s Californian-born founder. “From hotels, offices, and households – and is taken to a small factory. It’s then boiled down to a pulp, dried in the sun, and finally folded and decorated by hand.”
As well as a commitment to using recycled materials, Axiology also donates a percentage of its annual profits to partners like Orangutan Foundation International, PeTA, and other humane societies. “Every time you purchase a lipstick, you make a difference!” is its mantra.
Ethically-sourced ingredients include avocado oil, castor seed oil, orange essential oil, elderberry, coconut oil and candelilla, vitamin E and mineral powder – all of which do the same job as the cocktail of chemicals used in many other luxury brands. The natural ingredients combine to give a deep pigment, offer nourishing qualities, hydrate chapped lips, add shine, nutrients and vitamins. It feels good to wear it, and good to know that purchasing the tube is also doing good elsewhere. The total feel-good factor.
“We believe that our customers deserve to feel beautiful while also feeling ethical about their cosmetics choices. We also believe that this precious Earth is stunning—and we strive to add to that beauty with conscious actions,” says Ericka. So good, you could kiss her.
