As the name suggests, Skinfix‘s new balms are essential kit for troubled skin. Richly textured, the duo are super skin saviours and the ideal remedies to have in your bathroom cabinet. Best of all, both contain all-natural ingredients, so nasties are kept at bay – giving skin ultimate protection and a ‘caring hand’. Gone are parabens, steroids, fragrance and hydrocortisone (which are often included in medical treatments for skin complaints).
The Eczema Balm, £14.99, is a natural rich balm for managing eczema and dermatitis. Containing zero water, it instead contains shea butter, coconut oil and sweet almond oil. Gently rub it in and the soft texture seems to melt into the affected areas to reduce redness and itching (in clinical studies, after four weeks of use, 93.5% experience a reduction of redness and 77.4% experienced a reduction in itching). I’ve been letting my oldest son, who has eczema on his back, use this and, so far, so good – with itching reduced and his eczema reduced. This is a real breakthrough for us as we normally have to resort to steroid creams to keep it under control.
The Barrier Balm, £14.99, meanwhile, is one of those all-rounders which can be used to heal all sorts of complaints – from chafing, rashes, bug bites and minor burns – packed with natural goodies – it has become my all-natural medical kit in a tube and a definite one for me to travel with.
The heritage Canadian label has an interesting story – the 100-year-old label was actually taken over by entrepreneur Amy Gordinier-Regan, who relaunched it in 2013 with major retail partners in Canada. A further connection with Christina Hennington, senior vice-president of health and beauty for Target secured her an exclusive agreement to take her adult and baby collections across the USA, and the rest is history, with the UK following suit. The brand’s philosophy of using the best natural ingredients to actually heal your skin has since created super fans in the US and UK, where Boots, among other retailers, carry the range. It’s a real find.
Now on to another one of my ‘do-gooders’ – Frezyderm’s Mild Wash Liquid, £9.99, is like a velvet glove for the skin. A cooling, gentle cleanser – it whips off dirt and make-up and rebalances skin without causing irritation. This is the sort of face-wash (it can also be used on the body) that you crave if you have a skin break-out and want to feel that your skin is super-clean. It is soap, fragrance, colour and parabens free – so is uber-kind yet mega-effective. It simply cleans up where others don’t.
