How deliciously evocative is this perfume! Its warm, seductive notes are just perfect for this time of year and ideal to make a special gift this Christmas. Created by independent British perfumer Ruth Mastenbroek, Firedance, from £90, is the fourth fragrance in the cult label’s line-up, and is a deep, dark smoky perfume, based around the rich scent of rose.
The modern interpretation of a classic rose perfume, it has top notes of apple and lemon giving way to a heart of Damask Rose, with leather and cashmere. Over time, these warm to a base of exotic Oudh and patchouli. Spritz it on and, at first, you get a sharp, enlivening burst of citrus, which then warms to amber notes. Let it linger on the skin and you’ll find the most sexy, alluring scent that will surprise and delight you.
A trained nose, and the creator of many fragrances for well-known brands, Ruth Mastenbroek has 40 years experience as a perfumer. She launched her niche brand seven years ago, being compelled to create fragrances that used the most exquisite ingredients she had come across during her time in the industry.
“I have lived and worked all over the world and I use the finest ingredients from across the globe to tell stories about life through perfume,” she says. “Stories of freedom, love, discovery and celebration. My fragrances can take years to perfect; they offer something exciting and different. They are original and come from the heart – from me to you.”
With its charming bottle – which echoes age-old silhouettes and paper-cuts – Firedance is based around the theme of celebration. It’s a nod to the fairy-tale moments we aspire to, the romance of the unknown. Best of all, the uplifting fragrance is inspired by all those little moments of cheer that occur – whether it’s the big Champagne celebrations or the small moments of contentment in life. Here’s to yours this Christmas.
