Prince would be pleased! Looking around my latest stash of goodies, I noticed that they all had one thing in common: the same purple hue. Giving a regal tone to my beauty finds, is this gorgeous glitzy lacquer (shown on the right above) by Orly. Bubbly Bombshell is perfect for the festive season with its glittery finish. It goes on like a dream and is very long-lasting, giving nails a professional finish.
Also, new from the brand, is its Breathable, £12, range of polishes. This magenta-wine shade – called The Antidote – is an all-in-one base, colour and top-coat, but crucially, it has a special formula which allows nails to breathe.
Combining the know-how of a nail treatment with that of a colour, it has what it calls Advanced Oxygen Technology and is perfect if you’re looking to give your nails a break between manicures. Containing argan oil, pro-vitamin B5 and vitamin C it stimulates nail growth and helps to heal damaged nails.
Next up is Dr Lancer‘s cult product Caviar Lime Acid Peel, £90, which is beloved by A-listers due to its skin ‘turnaround’ capabilities. The treatment removes surface cells to help reduce the appearance of pores and balance skin tone for smoother, brighter skin.
Ideal for dull, tired skin, it encourages exfoliation and helps dissolve build-up, while glycolic acid works to remove dead surface cells, phytic acid helps to brighten the complexion, and fruit enzymes, like papaya and pineapple, help to smooth and soften the skin.
With regular use, Lancer Caviar Lime Acid Peel can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. But it also has an instant effect – with skin looking glowing and luminous straight after using it.
I’ve been applying it once a week on clean, dry skin. You leave it on for 10-15 minutes and rinse off. It can be left on for up to an hour, but bear in mind this is essentially a DIY peel, and all I kept thinking of was the scene with Samantha in SATC. Remember that? She ended up looking like a lobster when her chemical peel went wrong – so I would advise caution when first using this to see how your skin tolerates it.
Also note, that the treatment does include potent AHAs, which may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn, so a sunscreen for one week afterwards (and limited sun exposure) is necessary while using this product. After all, you want to use the purple product, but need end up the same colour.
Adding a glow from inside out, are my beauty nutrients from Vitabiotics’ Perfectil. Having limited time and patience for popping multiple pills, I don’t bother taking tons of different vitamins and minerals (so confusing), so this is my one-tab-does-it-all solution.
The little pink-purple tablets, called Perfectil plus Hair, £17.95 for 60 tablets, are the latest nutritional supplement in the Perfectil range, designed specifically for women who are looking to support and retain healthy hair as well as having something to boost overall health.
Each tablet contains the optimum blend of vitamins which are essential for the health of skin, hair and nails, as well as additional nutrients which are integral to the restoration of hair. Key ingredients include selenium and biotin, which contribute to the maintenance of normal hair, as well as vitamin D and iron which has a role in cell division, vital for hair growth and development. Colourel Blend with copper contributes to normal hair pigmentation.
Also giving a boost for your hair – this time in a can – is Tigi’s Bed Head Superstar Thickening Spray, £15.50. This is the next best thing to visiting the salon for a blow dry, spritz it on wet hair and it gives big volume, body and lift that stays for ages. Prince would have loved it.
