Go for gold: marula oil is the latest starry ingredient for hair

by angelinavc

Beautifully styled with its white-on-white packaging and gold embellishment, Paul Mitchell Marula Oil’s latest ‘Light’ hair products already had me at ‘hello’! And, then I tried them out… and I am pleased to say they are more than just  a ‘pretty face’.

For those of you who have already heard of the brand’s core Marula Oil range of products – all based around the ‘starry’ ingredient that is (yes, you guessed it!) Marula Oil – the Light range is the new collection for fine hair.

Marula Oil Light has been designed to boost volume for those with fine hair, BUT without weighing the hair down. Based around cold-pressed Marula Oil, the Rare Oil Volumizing Shampoo, £21.95, cleanses and removes residue and leaves hair shiny and manageable. This is a real breakthrough for people – like me – who have fine hair, as most oil-based products instantly make your crowning glory look greasy and dull. The gentle shampoo is also great for coloured hair and the formula – packed with nutrients – helps to restore hair to health and to seal split ends. It has a velvety – but almost watery – texture which feels silky and light.

Sourced from southern and eastern African, marula oil has been a traditional ingredient for beauty remedies for centuries. The marula oil fruit is wild-harvested by African women’s collectives who are educated on safe practices, provided traceability training and paid fair trade wages. Marula oil helps create a sustainable economy for women and their families.

Also using it as its star ingredient is the Rare Oil Volumizing Conditioner, £23.95, which fortifies and detangles. Smooth it on – it has a nice, rich texture but isn’t too thick – and leave on for a few minutes while you shower. It leaves hair much smoother and easy to blow-dry, leaving it glossy and easy to comb through. Best of all there is a discernible difference in how the hair looks – even without straightening – my hair looks tamer and straighter, with no frizz and with its colour enhanced (my blonde colour seems much brighter).

Finally, the trio of products completes with the genius Style Perfecting Serum, £26.95. This is now my ultimate hair-care ‘go-to’. You only need a tiny amount – combed through damp hair – to help create the ultimate blow-dry. Hair is left soft and shiny, and what more can you ask for?
