January Beauty: New Year, same you, just better

by angelinavc

There’s nothing like revamping your make-up box to give you a fresh new look for a new year ahead.

Shiro, the Japanese natural beauty brand, is the perfect place to start. First, clear out the clutter from your make-up bag and get rid of dated colour palettes, clogged mascaras and cracked powders and then invest in one of the brand’s kind products made with natural ingredients. They enhance and add colour, while also caring for the skin while they work.

The gel Kombu Eyeliners, for instance, contain yuzu-peel oil and kombu (a form of edible kelp) so it is gentle on the eye area and improves the texture of the skin while helping to shape and contour the eyes.

The Mocha Brown (shown in the second pic) is perfect for a day-to-night look and gives a glam definition around the eyes. The Cool Grey, meanwhile (top pic), gives a more subtle look to flatter every eye colour and works for a sophisticated finish which is modern and contemporary.

The Ginger Lip Butters are just genius. Combining a lip cream, gloss and lipstick – they are a sort of hybrid product made up of everything you’d want from a lip colour. Containing ginger-root oil, tomato-fruit extract and capsicum extract to condition and smooth the lips, they also have shea butter and beeswax to moisturise and keep chapped lips at bay.

The Terracotta shade has been my new go-to for day-time – it has a translucent finish, with just enough pigment, to add radiance and brightness to your look. While the Classic Red is the ultimate ‘out-out’ crimson to add glamour to an otherwise ‘nude’ face.

Finally, comes the Shea Eye Shadow, shown here in Rose Petal. You just need to add a delicate sweep of this over your lids to transform your face. The pearlised finish gives a fresh, shimmery look, while the creamy texture goes on like a dream. Shea butter and sesame oil moisturise the eye area, while tapioca starch helps to improve the skin’s texture.

Launched by Hiroe Imai, Shiro was intended to be make-up that made a difference to the user’s skin. Using cruelty-free ingredients that are sustainably sourced from trusted farms and suppliers, the brand is also very careful to keep the ingredients as raw as possible, to deliver the maximum potency from them. Keeping the products as simple as possible is another USP, as some of the products contain only one or two ingredients. It’s the new way ahead for make-up and for those looking to declutter and refine for simplicity, you can get a well edited look from just a few products.
